The Work Experience Programme was first conceived in 1991, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Marina City’s Youth and Vocational Programme. It has been a part of the School’s Career Guidance Programme for Secondary Three Express and Four Normal pupils ever since. Most work attachments in the early years were with companies of Rotary Club members, however, in recent years, more organizations and companies from diverse fields have been sourced to provide attachments for the pupils.

With the advent of the new economy, global changes in work culture, emphasis in employability rather than employment, there is a constant need to educate our pupils on the realities of the working world and initiate them into the exploration of the various career paths that are available. Through this programme, the pupils have the opportunity to put in perspective, how their education in the school is related to the career choices that will be available for them later. At the heart of the programme is the vision of pupils who have the ability to make informed post-secondary and career decisions from their knowledge of self and the working world around them, and who uphold the value of lifelong learning for employability.

The objectives of the Work Experience Programme are :
1. To train pupils in identifying and understanding their own attributes and career interests;
2. To develop pupils’ skills in making informed and enlightened career decisions;
3. To provide pupils with some experience of t
he world of work, in the career of their choice;
4. To enable pupils to appreciate the need for proper preparation for their future career decisions and
5. To prepare pupils for a lifelong approach to careers.

Each year, Sec 3 Exp and 4 Nor pupils indicate their interests to participate in the 3 – 12 day work stint in a particular field during their year-end break and they will be matched with companies or organizations that have agreed to become our partners in providing out-of-classroom experience for them. At the end of their stint, they are expected to share their experience with the rest of the school during assembly presentations.
