Dunman Secondary-Zhuo Dao Quan Secondary Exchange Programme

Wuhan pupils in Singapore, 2008

Since 2005, more than 100 Dunmanites have participated in the programme where they were immersed in China's cultural development and historical background and learn about her current status and future development plans. About 80 students from Wuhan have also visited Singapore on the programme and were introduced to the local education system via classroom fusion and brought on visits to places in Singapore to have a better view of the local climate.

During the programme, our students spent time attending lessons and interact with the local students. We have created a buddy system for each Singapore student to allow developing of friendship between students from both countries and to promote better interactions.  Students had an enjoyable time there where they established strong bonds with their peers and had gained precious knowledge about Chinese culture. Participation in the classroom lessons also provided them with the opportunity to experience in a totally Chinese environment. A day of home stay in the local families allowed them to ‘walk’ into the daily activities of the Chinese. It improved the understanding behind China's 5000-year history and culture that shaped the present Chinese.

Group from Dunman – 2008

Dunman Secondary-RDPS Exchange Programme

Our visit to RDPS, 2008

On 9 Nov 08, the pioneer group of Dunmanites arrived at Delhi for the exchange programme between the 2 schools. One unique feature of the programme is the 4-day home stay our pupils had with their Indian buddies. The home stay programme provided them first hand experience and insights of Indian cultures and traditions.

Visit to the Taj Mahal

Showing off their masterpiece after the Tie and Dye workshop

In addition, the pupils visited educational sites during the 1-week immersion programme such as Red Fort, the Parliament museum, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial museum, and the Taj Mahal, which is one of 7 wonders of the world, to better understand the past and present of India.  Our pupils were also exposed to workshops conducted by our gracious hosts in areas such as Tie and Dye, and Indian classical music and dance forms.

Before our pupils departed for India, they communicated with their buddies via cyberspace and worked on collaborative projects in various topics.  They presented their findings on their last day of stay there.

Our pupils enjoyed the visit and found the trip very meaningful and beneficial.  We look forward to receiving RDPS pupils in Singapore in Mar 09.
