Fancy a haircut in school? Need to video an important event? Need some cycling or kayaking tips, or even how to project your voice? Well, if you ever need any of these services, you may not need to look further than the students in Dunman Secondary School.

Since July 2005, about 120 students from Secondary 1 and 2 NT have been trained under the FLINT (Fostering Lifelong learning and Innovation in NT students) programme in various skills such as hairdressing, video production, drama and adventure sports.

The programme aims to allow students to discover their talents and build up their self-confidence by learning a new skill.

Well known stars such as Aaron Aziz, Annabelle Francis and Sheik Haikal have been involved in training some of these students in Drama techniques.

As part of the 10 week programme, students who opted to participate in the Drama workshop were given acting tips and practice to develop them into potential stars of the future.

Another module of the FLINT programme is Hairdressing. Perhaps one of the most popular options, students learnt hairdressing skills from a professional hairdresser. The school even converted one of its classrooms into a hair dressing salon complete with large mirrors, salon styled chairs (donated by Makansutra) and a wash basin and reclining seat for washing hair.

Students render service to the residents of the All Saints' Home adopted by the school in 2001.

Fancy yourself as the future Steven Spielberg ? Well a group of students from Sec 1H got to try out first hand what it is like to shoot a video. Guided by a professional video producer, the students were given training on handling the video camera as well as lighting and sound equipment.

For the more sporty students the Adventure module was the most appealing. The module which encompassed cycling, hiking, kayaking, roller blading among other things was always looked forward to by the students.

The students enjoyed the programme and many have benefited from it. They say that it makes school a lot more interesting for them. Well, who knows, the next big star, world famous hairdresser or even famous video producer could just come from Dunman Secondary.
