Advisor: Ms Lim Guat Hong

Status: Continuing protocol with different objectives with another group of students.

The disposal of waste motor oil is a problem as it cannot be easily dumped into the environment without causing severe harm to plants and animals. The group will isolate oil degrading microbes to break down hydrocarbons to a less harmful substance which can be safely disposed. The plasmids with the oil degrading gene from the bacterium will be isolated will be analyzed. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis will also be done on the bacterium.
