OVERVIEW
Status: Completed but continuing protocol with different objectives.
Abstract:While
seafood is generally safe to eat, we need to take precautionary
measures to minimize food safety risks through careful selection
and handling. There are certain types of seafood which are considered
to be high risks as they are likely to cause food borne illnesses.
A food sample can be tested for total coliform and faecal coliform
to determine if it is contaminated.
Therefore, in our experiment, we had decided to detect the presence
of the different types of coliform bacteria, which has a different
level of risk each, in raw seafood. Through identifying the various
common coliform bacteria that are present in seafood, we are able
to be more aware of the risks associated with certain types of seafood.
At the same time we would be able to take the necessary precautions
to prevent any harm when handling or consuming them.
