In
2007, the Dunman Life-Sciences Research Centre in collaboration
with East Zone Schools organized the first East Zone Enviro-Life
Sciences Symposium held at Chongzheng Primary School. The Guest
of Honour for the event was Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Parliamentary
Secretary for Education and Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC.
The
keynote speaker for the event, Professor Leo Tan from NIE gave an
inspiring talk entitled, 'Addressing Environmental and Life Sciences
Issues Innovatively' that left the participants spellbound.

The
event which saw more than 500 participants for the hall programme
opened to schools and teachers and many more for the games cum exhibition
opened to the community, was aimed at promoting investigation into
the life-sciences and the environment. Prizes were kindly donated
by SIA. In 2008, the 2nd East Zone Enviro-Life Sciences Symposium
will be held at our new school hall.
Teachers
from Dunman Secondary School and Chongzheng Primary School had the
opportunity to showcase their curriculum innovations. The organising
committee would like to thank all schools and organisations including
the National Environment Agency, SIA and Dunman Dedicated and Supportive
Parents' Group for their support of the event. We also thank our
kind sponsors including Senoko Power. We would like to congratulate
all winners of the competition.
