The Dunman DSP (Dedicated and Supportive Parents' Group) and the school co-organised Racial Harmony cum Family Bonding Day to promote greater racial integration, family bonding and foster a spirit of innovation and enterprise among students. The event was launched by our Guest of Honour, Mr Yatiman Yusof, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, MICA and MP for Tampines GRC.

Balloons, banners and symbols associated with the different races lined the school gate, fence and the walkways. A banner inviting everyone was put up and flyers were distributed to neighbouring schools and the community. Major areas of the school were decorated to depict the major races living harmoniously in Singapore.

An exhibition in the school hall and part of the atrium provided greater awareness of the cultures of the 4 main races in Singapore. Included was a ketupat making demonstration, Chinese calligraphy, Tamil music and Eurasians dressed in their ethnic clothes. A multi racial concert with a celebrity as MC featured at different time-slots drew much interest. A former Dunmanite who is well known in music circles, Jai, was the Guest artiste. Also included in the repertoire was a Bhangra Dance, Dhikir Barat performance, Lion Dance and more. Innovative contests such as the Best Dressed Ethnic Family Competition as well as the Parent-Child look-a-like contest created greater bonding family members. Ethnic Games were also featured.

The canteen was transformed into a food paradise serving a variety of mouth watering ethnic food cooked by parents, teachers and students of different races. A Video broadcast allowed what was taking place on stage in the hall to be enjoyed by students, parents and the community having their food in the canteen.

Parents and students showed their creativity and enterprise by coming up with interesting business ventures and games. Parents and students set up stalls selling new and second hand recycled goods. Enterprising ventures such as the Haunted House by the Sec 4A in the school basement drew much excitement and grossed $902 without any capital outlay. Beautiful pieces of pottery handmade by the parents' support group and students were sold raising more than $500. Different variations of prata made by students of different races from the NCC Air, raised more than $500. Games on road safety and environment awareness grossed more than $300. Altogether $23,000 was raised meeting the target of $20,000 which was the amount the school had spent the previous year in helping needy students.
