Collaboration with NIE on Using Graphing Calculators for Teaching & Learning of Secondary Mathematics
In 2008, the department acquired a classroom set of TI Graphing Calculators (GCs) and teachers trial the use of the GCs with secondary 3 classes. For the topic on Trigonometry, pupils use GCs to visualize and study the properties of various trigonometric graphs.
In 2009, we look forward to collaborating with NIE to extend the use of GCs for the teaching and learning of all topics in S3 Mathematics and Additional Mathematics. Lessons will be conducted in a special room fully equipped with the Graphing Calculators as well as the TI Navigators.
Integration of IT for teaching and learning
- Engaged Learning in an IT Learning Environment
For the past 2 years, secondary 2 pupils make use of Tablet PCs together with the Fun with Construction software to learn about linear and quadratic graphs
During the NE week, pupils also get to do an Internet Scavenger Hunt using the Tablets.
- Mathematics e-Learning Portal
To encourage pupils to develop into independent learners, all pupils subscribe to the ACE-Learning Online Mathematics programme. In the learning portal, pupils can access online video lessons and interactive laboratories, allowing them to revisit and revise concepts taught in class at their own pace. With a vast online question bank, pupils can also participate in online self assessments and tests.
