2008 had been an extremely fruitful and thriving year for Dunman’s Netball Team. Our girls had undergone different types of trainings – from general physical conditioning to specific court work under our very efficient and dedicated coach, Ms Vivian De Silva.
The girls participated in various types of competitions ranging from carnivals to zonal and national tournaments. Through consistency, determination and perseverance, our girls achieved outstanding results. In the East Zone Netball Competition, our C division girls came in 2nd and our B division girls clinched the Championship title. Furthermore in the National rounds, both teams managed to emerge the Top 8 in the competition. They bonded and cooperated flawlessly as a team and achieved these magnificent results. This entire journey had truly taught the girls the importance of unity and endurance.
During the June holidays, Dunman Netball team went for a Netball Immersion Programme in Perth, Western Australia. The girls went to many interesting and historic places and watched the ANZ Netball Challenge which was a live championship match. The climax of this trip was definitely the Immersion Programme with the two schools, Saint Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School and Iona Presentation College. The girls learnt invaluable knowledge through the classroom immersion. The girls attended a variety of classes and learnt about drama, foreign languages and rhythmic dance. The best experience was the opportunity to play with the two schools in the cold and chilly winter condition. In all, the trip was enthralling and great.
Without a doubt, next year would be another tough year for the team due to the ever increasing standards of netball in the other schools. We will, and we must, work hard, to try and improve our weak areas. Together we can bring our team to greater heights. Our pride will be to achieve excellence and glory for the Dunman Netball team.
