For the work year 2008/2009, our school’s NCC (Air) Unit was awarded the Gold Award for the annual Best Unit Competition (BUC) organized by NCC HQ. True to our Motto, we have brought pride, honour and glory to our school and unit by clinching our SEVENTH consecutive GOLD Award in the competition. While the cadets, Cadet Lieutenants and teachers-in-charge may have changed over the years, the tradition of hard work and dedication has always remained strong.
In this year’s aeromodeling competition, our unit took part in both the line control and remote control computer simulation categories. We are proud to announce that our team, the DUNMAN THUNDER, comprising of Pilot Corporal Elijah and Flight Mechanic Corporal Amirul Hayat, came in second for the line control category. This is the second year that Elijah has excelled in the competition. Last year he was Champion. The team worked very hard this year and their efforts have paid off.
A major change was introduced by NCC HQ this year. For the first time, secondary two cadets who had passed their Individual Marksmanship Trainer (IMT) were allowed to participate in the M16 live shoot. Five of our cadets were awarded the Marksman badge. Our secondary three cadets also did very well in their shooting test. Ten cadets received their Marksmen badges in the simulated SAR21 rifle shoot.
Another major initiative was also introduced this year. For the annual SAF open house, cadets were recruited to guide visitors from the public. It was a unique and meaningful experience for the cadets as it allowed them to further enhance their knowledge of the armed forces and also sharpen their communication skills. Two of our cadets, 3rd Sergeant Muhammad Nabil and Muhammad Alhanis were selected.
Staff Sergeant Muhammad Shafiee also did the unit proud when he was one of the very few NCC cadets selected to participate in the country’s National Day Celebrations at Marina Bay. The selection process was very stringent and the cadets practiced long and hard for several months prior to the actual event.
The unit has been working very hard to make training fun and valuable to all cadets. We strive to do the best in all competitions that we take part in. We hope that our hard work will translate to yet another GOLD Award for NCC (Air) this year.
