NCC LAND

For the work year 2008, the unit welcomes warmly 2 new officers into the unit. Mr John Lawrence Raj has been installed as the new Commanding Officer for the unit after the departure of the former Commanding Officer, LTA (NCC) Zaid Rudy to Serangoon Secondary School. We wish our former Commanding Officer all the best in his new posting. Mr Tang Kim Yong is the new training officer for the unit. He is also a former Dunmanite who used to be a cadet in the school’s unit too. It is the hope of the unit that we will achieve greater heights with the arrival of our energetic and youthful teacher officers.

In 2008, the cadets have participated in many meaningful activities organised by the school’s unit and NCC HQ. They have taken part in the annual Part A and Part B camps at NCC HQ. They have also taken part in live firing shoots and practices on weapons handling. In June, the cadets also initiated a school camp for the purpose of establishing a stronger bonding and camaraderie among all the cadets. The cadets also participated in several leadership courses organised by NCC HQ. At the end of such courses, cadets have been awarded higher ranks and badges.

In this co-curricular activity, cadets have also honed their sporting skills through numerous friendly soccer matches. They have also taken part in orienteering and fitness national competitions for all NCC units. The cadets also took part in the school’s Speech Day parade in July with pride and honour. We hope to improve our ranking in the annual Best Unit Competition next year. Some of the activities that the unit hopes to introduce to the cadets in 2009 are canoeing, aikido, rock climbing and orienteering expeditions. May the cadets continue to benefit from their continued participation in the unit! Onward NCC Land!
