Dunman Secondary School has come a long way since its humble beginnings in Haig Road in 1963. Today, the school which focuses on the holistic development of its students, is one of the premier schools in the Tampines - Pasir Ris area.


 

Academic

Dunman Secondary was the proud recipient of the prestigious School Distinction Award in 2007. It was awarded the Sustained Achievement Award for fine Academic Performance over three consecutive years where the school clinched a Gold Value-Added Award for both 2006 and 2007. Over the last few years, the L1B5 (English and 5 Best Subjects) has been improving with 13.9 in 2004, 13.4 in 2005 and 13.2 in 2006. More of our students are qualifying for Junior College. For 2006, 93 % of students qualify for JC with 100% qualifying for the Polytechnic. For the Secondary 5 Normal Academic Stream in 2006, 25% of students qualified for JC and 91% for the Polytechnic. In the 2005 GCE 'O' examinations, 95.3% of its express stream students qualified for Junior College. 100% of students qualified for the Polytechnic. The top Malay pupil in Singapore 2005, Muhd Nabil, with 8A1s and 1A2 hails from Dunman Secondary.

Dunman Secondary is extremely proud of our student Ong Zong Bao from Secondary 4 Normal Technical (2007) for being accorded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Award for All Round Excellence in 2007. Apart from being a very active member of the NPCC and a good role model for others to emulate, Zong Bao excelled in his studies. He scored 5 distinctions for the GCE 'NT' Level Examinations.

 

 

Innovation and Enterprise

In 2006, Dunman Secondary School was awarded the prestigious Service Excellence Award by SPRING for organizational excellence. Dunman was also awarded the Singapore Innovation Class the same year. Innovation is one of the hallmarks of the school. Dunman Secondary received the National Thinking Culture Award 2005/6 given out to 7 schools in Singapore each year. Once again this year, the school was awarded the National Thinking Culture for 2007/8.

The school is extremely proud of our talented and creative Dunmanites who have clinched several prestigious awards this year. Our students continue to perform well in the environmental and life-sciences.


 

It was a proud moment for Dunman Secondary when our life-sciences students clinched the second prize in NEA's Environment Competition 2007 (formerly enviro-innovate) with their project 'Isolation and Application of Oil Degrading Bacteria'. This project is supported by SIA. The first and third prize went to Raffles Institution.

In the Blue Earth Greening Competition 2007, a website competition to turn our earth green organised by the Singapore Polytechnic, the team of Environmental Champions from the Dunman clinched the first prize valued at more than $7,500.

At the Biotech Fair 2007 organised by the Singapore Science Centre, our pupils won a consolation prize for their project 'Investigating Mutagenicity of Hair and Nail Products'.

In the Young Enterpreneurship Challenge (YES) as part of theNational Entrepreneurial Convention (NEC) 2007 (left), a team of Dunman students emerged National Champions with their innovative business plan on car maintenance.

In the Creatively Mine Competition (right) organised by Media Corps to promote student inventions, Dunman emerged winners for their category where they completed with RGS and Anglican High. The event was broadcast over Channel 8. The invention which separates food waste from crockery has significant impact in canteens.

 
 
Dunman Secondary School clinched the Second Runner Up prize in the Yescom (Young Entrepreneur Skill Competition) competition organised by the Malay Newspaper, The Berita Harian. The team won $400 in cash including a 3D2N trip to Negeri Sembilan sponsored by the Tourism Malaysia. On top of that they also won the Most Creative TV Advertisement Award winning another $100 cash. Their advertisement would be telecast on Suria 12 as it will be filmed by an advertising company, Screenbox for one of their clients. All proceeds of our team' s sale of items were donated to a school mate who is not well and needed to undergo a major operation.

In the IT MAP Competition 2007 (Information Technology Music Arrangement in Performance) organised by Kranji Sec, Music Tec and Singapore Polytechnic Dunman Sec emerged first Runners-up.

 
  Dunman Secondary keeps up its its yearly tradition of winning an award for the learn@series IT competitions. In 2007, Dunman won Second Prize in the Learn@Library competition. The first prize went to Crescent Girls' and third prize to Raffles Institution. In 2006, the school won the the Innovative Discoverer Award and the Discovery Scramble Award in the Learn@Singapore Discovery Centre competition. In 2005, it won the Technology Award in the Learn@Rivertrail competition. In 2004, it won the coveted Science Genius Award for the National Learn@Quest Competition beating top schools. In 2003, the school won the Arts Educator Award, in 2002, the coveted Publisher Award for Learn@Parks, in 2001, the Gold i-micro award and a Silver for the Learn@Museum and a Gold for Learn@Zoo in 2000.
 
 

In the D & T Coursework Awards Presentation 2007, Dunman Secondary won was honored with 8 awards out of the 38 awards given out, for producing creative and innovative designs. These include 6 Creative Aesthetic Awards, 1 Creative Innovation Award and 1 Creative Adaptation Award. Moreover, the school was presented with an outstanding award for the school with the most number of shortlisted entries, and Dunman Secondary was indeed proud to receive their award in a ceremony graced by Permanent Secretary of MOE, Mrs Tan Ching Yee.

Dunman Secondary participated in the Lam Soon Salad Competition 2007 and one of its teams from Sec 1 emerged champions in Category A for Lower Secondary Pupils with their creation - Nutty Seafood Cuppies

 
 

 

In 2006, the school once again clinched 3rd prize in the Enviro-Innovate Contest. Dunman would like to thank SIA for sponsoring the project. In 2006, it once again linched the Innovator Award for its curriculum innovations. The school also clinched one Gold and three Silver Awards at the National IQC in 2006 and 2 Silver Awards at NIQC 2007.

 

 
  Dunman received the Gold Award for Physical Health in 2006 and 2007. Our HOD PE/CCA, Mr Teo Khong Beng received the award from our Minister for Education. We would like to congratulate our Subject Head for Design and Technology, Ms Grace Kwek for winning the Innovator Award at Innergy 2006. Dunman's teacher, Mr Khairyl was the proud recipient of the Platinum Award for the 8th School Video Awards.

 

 
 

 

In 2005, Dunman Seconday was the only school and one in 6 organisations to receive the Greenplan 2012 Award from the Minister of the environment and water resources. The school was the only school to achieve a Gold Award in NEA's Recycling Competition. The school won a place in the Singapore Book of Records for stringing together more than 5 km of plastic bottles to spread the message to recycle plastics. Dunman has received the Sustained Lotus Achievement Award from the Singapore Environment Council for the period 2005 - 7. In 2007, the school was successfully revalidated for the award.
 
 

 

in 2006, the school won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in the KARA Programming Challenge at the East Zone Science Carnival organised by VJC. The school also clinched the 1st and 3rd prize in the Toy Design competition organised by the Singapore Polytechnic. In the Solar Sprint Competition organised by Singapore Polytechnic, the school emerged 1st runner-up.

 

In the area of robotics, for 2006, Dunman Sec was 1st runner up in the Asia Pacific Robotics Competition 2006 organised by ReliNet Pte Ltd. The students also achieved a merit award at the World Skills Day Mobile Robot Competition organised by ITE West (Balestier). In 2007, the school was 3rd runner up in the Micromouse competition organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

 

Aesthetics

Watch out for our Dunmanites on The ARENA -on Channel 5 in March 2008. Dunman's team of debaters from the StageArts Club have made it to the top 12 in the inter-school debating competition. Congratulations!

 

At the 2007, Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging, Dunman Secondary clinched 7 awards. We would like to congratulate the Dunman Choir for achieving a GOLD with Honours Award. The Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band and Malay Dance achieved Silver Awards while the Indian Dance, Modern Dance and String Ensemble achieved Bronze Awards. In 2005, our choir has won the Gold Award at the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music with Petr Eben's Prize in Praque, Czech Republic, a feat they accomplished in 2003. Only 5 International Choirs received a Gold Award.

Uniform Youth Organisations

For 2007, Dunman Secondary has clinched the sustained achievement award for uniformed groups for the 8th Year with 1 Gold Award and 4 Silver Awards. The NCC (Air) achieved a Gold Award while the NCC (Land), Red Cross, NPCC and Scouts achieved Silver Awards. We congratulate Nurhuda bte Sammon for her successful selection to attend the World Scout Jamboree in United Kingdom. The trip was fully sponsored by his Excellency Mr S R Nathan, or President and the Chief Scout.

Sports and Games

It was indeed a proud moment for Dunman Secondary when its 'C' Division Netball team emerged National Champions in the National Inter-Schools Netball Champtionships 2007. The 'B' Division and 'C' Division Volleyball Boys Teams both emerged 3rd in the East Zone Games this year while the 'B' Boys table-tennis team emerged 4th in the East Zone Games. Both the 'C' Girls and 'C' Boys Basketball teams emerged 2nd in the East Zone Games and are currently preparing for the National Championships.
